Art & Design @ Simone
Simone Martini Bar is situated on the corner of St. Marks and 1st Avenue in the legendary East Village in Manhattan. The creation of Lika Ramati, an artist and a designer who has a flair for visual alchemy and a head for ‘the business’ gave rise to New York’s East Village most elegant spots to see and be seen in. A re-converted old dirty drycleaners, she is now the very essence of beauty. With sultry Chinese décor, sparkling crystal chandeliers, black marble bar, and fabulous music selection, it is the perfect blend of a bar vibe and an intimate lounge.
Lika Ramati covered all the details: The French-Indochine decor ,art by Vladimir Tretchikoff, an exotic martini menu, sidewalk seating, delicious European fare, mouth-watering desserts, and an overall seductive atmosphere.
Stools with tiger-striped upholstery line the black-lacquered bar; Chinese wallpaper and ornate gold mirrors deck the walls. Crystal chandeliers glisten against the ruby-red tin ceiling, gold beaded curtainsand bold black and white checked floors give the place a seedy bordello fee.
Simone Martini Bar has been featured in various Japanese Fashion Magazines, Elle Magazine, Guess commercial, MTV reality show, Celebrity interviews, and the May 2005 Village Voice Campaign just to list a few.
Vladimir Tretchikoff was born in Russia in 1913. In 1946 he moved to South Africa. Tretchikoff made a mark on the art world with his works in oil, watercolour, ink, charcoal and pencil. But what really characterised his works were the reproductions of his work which sold worldwide- enjoying enormous popularity and also earning him the title of being the wealthiest living artist after Picasso. His most famous painting Chinese Girl, which he started in Java in 1946 and finished in 1952, sold millions around the world. It is rumoured that more prints were made of it than of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa or van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
